David J. Johnson Jr., 59, of MacArthur Boulevard, Coventry, RI, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Kent Hospital in Warwick. Born on December 11, 1966, he was the beloved husband of Jeanne M. (Mattias) Johnson. They shared exactly 34 and a half years of marriage. He was the son of Jean (McLellan) Johnson and the late David Johnson.
David was a lifelong Coventry resident who graduated from Coventry High School in the class of 1984. He then enlisted in the US Coast Guard serving in peacetime. After leaving the service, he worked as an inventory analyst for 10 years at Davol in Cranston. For the next 27 years he was a warehouse receiver at nVent in Warwick. After leaving nVent, he worked as a full time custodian for the Coventry Public School Department. For the last 14 years of his life, he was also a part-time deli clerk at Dave’s Marketplace in East Greenwich.
David, known as friendly and dependable, found joy in simple, meaningful moments—spending time with his family, playing with his dog, Cookie, and being a loyal Trekie. He tirelessly worked to provide for his family. Over the years, he gladly volunteered for many things including having participated on subcommittees of the Coventry School Committee, and being a constant roadie for his children's competition dance team. Since becoming "Pappy" to his two grandsons, he absolutely loved wearing his shirts that showcased them. Everyone who knew him, will remember his warmth, humor, and steady presence.
In addition to his wife Jeanne, he is survived by his children, Alexandra Milone (Tyler) and Bradley Johnson; his grandchildren, River and Skye Milone; his sister, Kirsten Proctor (Steve); and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Lisa Johnson.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Gorton Menard Funeral Home, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI.
A funeral service will follow on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private.
